Traditional Yoga Thai Massage

What is Traditional Thai Yoga Massage?

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing art, which has its roots in India and is widely used in Thailand and Western countries today. It concentrates on an energy line system through which the body’s natural life force (prana) flows. Blockages in this life force may cause aches, pains and dis-ease.

The massage is applied through the therapist’s use of hands, feet and elbows to apply pressure to important points along the energy lines, in combination with gentle stretching and applied hatha yoga. This releases blocked energy and frees the body’s own natural healing potential, thus restoring balance, health and harmony.

The gentle stretching movements, energy line and pressure point work produces a uniquely relaxing yet energising and highly effective therapeutic treatment, ideal for anyone regardless of their level of flexibility.

What should I do before a massage?

Please ensure you wear loose, warm and comfortable clothing, so as not to restrict movement during the massage.

Avoid having a large meal in the two hours before the treatment.

What happens when I come for a massage?

Initially, a detailed case history is taken to identify any medical problems or symptoms. The treatment is performed on a floor mat - you will remain fully clothed during the massage.

The massage is applied according to your own needs and bodily challenges & takes into account your 'prakriti' or Ayurvedic constitution.

How long is the massage?

Thai Yoga Massage can be performed in a minimum of 1½ hours, but a longer, more extensive massage is performed in 2 hours. In both massages, the whole body is treated, starting at the feet by limbering, relaxing and preparing the body in a logical sequence of stretches and postures.

How will I feel after the massage?

Thai Yoga Massage usually leaves the receiver feeling energised, calm and centred.

There may be some temporary healing reactions as toxins and emotions are released and the body’s energy rebalances, although most people feel an increased sense of well-being.

What conditions can Thai Yoga Massage treat?

Regardless of whether you receive a Thai Yoga Massage for healing or relaxation purposes, Thai Yoga Massage has an overall therapeutic effect, improving suppleness, flexibility and joint mobility, and releasing tension to help bring well-being and vitality to the body. It can provide relief from aches, pains, stiffness and stress, as well as improve circulation, strengthen the immune system and help aid digestion and elimination.

Changes within the physical, mental and emotional body take place over a period of time and therefore Thai Yoga massage is particularly beneficial when received as a course of treatment.
