Sivananda Math

Sivananda Math was founded in 1984 by Paramahamsa Satyananda and is dedicated to the memory of Swami Sivananda. It aims to involve and engage people in expressing their positive and creative qualities and capacities for the welfare of all. It helps to connect one person with another and provides the opportunity to show care and responsibility.

Sivananda Math is not about charity, not about making people dependent. It is about giving, giving the means and opportunity for people to become independent and free. For those who are giving it is also an opportunity for purification and personal growth, a chance to step beyond the confined and limited aspects of human nature and experience.

It follows the ideals of Swami Sivananda: "Serve, love, give, purify"

Sivananda Math has a strong track record of fostering and developing local communities in Bihar. It has been active in this area by creating opportunities for villagers that enable them to break cycles of poverty and have more control over their lives.

A major development and expansion of the scope of Sivananda Math is its efforts to assist the survivors of the Gujjarat earthquake. There are plans to establish an orphanage and for people who have been assisted by Sivananda Math to now offer their support and skills by travelling to the area to play a role in assisting in the reestablishment of agriculture, education and housing.
